GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The All-Starz Youth Day at Joannes Park offered those in the community an opportunity to get together –
And prepare for school in the process.
Free haircuts, school supplies, and giveaways were just the beginning of the celebration.
“We have cases of shoes, cases of socks, cases of underwear, free clothes, all types of resources,” said organizer Chris Kimbrough, who also owns Starz Barber & Beauty of Green Bay. “We even have now where Kimbrough Adult Family Homes that were able to now hire 16 year-olds to do part time work, so we even have those resources here for the kids.”
This is only the second year the back to school event has been hosted, but Kimbrough says attendance has more than doubled. Even with the large crowds they say they have more than enough school supplies to go around. “We have so much to give away, so much. I promise you, I don’t want to take anything home, I don’t want to take anything to my office, I want to give it all out today, and I’d really feel good if everything goes,” He said.
Wanique Harrissays it’s a rare opportunity. “People don’t do these things. The free events, the giveaways. Not too many cities do this, I can say Green Bay is really doing it’s thing!” she said.
“It’s really helpful for the kids that don’t really have anything, so it’s really kind of them for doing that,” Nemyah Brightstar Noyes told us.
Pastor Cedric Hibler from New Nation Kingdom Assembly tells FOX 11 it’s all for the kids. “I think this is good for Green Bay, because it brings people together, especially our youth,” He explained. “Our kids need hope. And I think that’s really what we try and offer today. Give them some time.”
And the kids couldn’t be happier.
