GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A 15-year-old boy charged in adult court with attempted homicide for a shooting on the city’s east side is asking to have the case moved to juvenile court.
Freddrick Love-Kennedy is charged in connection with the April 19 shooting near Mills and Village streets.
In Wisconsin, those between ages 10-to-16 facing certain homicide-related counts are charged in adult court first. However, as has now happened in this case, his attorneys asked Wednesday for the case to be moved to juvenile court. Such requests are not automatically given, and are at the discretion of the judge. An Oct. 28 hearing has been set for that issue.
Meanwhile, a preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for Sept. 10, court records show.
Love-Kennedy is in jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
An argument about a robbery and two subsequent fights led to the shooting, according to a court document.
According to the complaint, a witness told police Love-Kennedy robbed the shooting victim’s cousin. After that, there were two more fights — one of which involved Love-Kennedy and the eventual shooting victim — both of which Love-Kennedy lost, “and that’s why he was upset”, according to the witness.
Love-Kennedy, the victim, and several others met Friday afternoon on Mills Street. Another argument ensued, Love-Kennedy pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots. The victim was hit twice: once in the arm, once in the face.
After his arrest, Love-Kennedy told police “he was attacked yesterday at Preble and he had no intention of getting any revenge,” the complaint states.
Love-Kennedy denied having any contact with the victim or his friends, and he denied firing the shots.
Police said the 16-year-old victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
