(WTAQ-WLUK) — For the second time in a week, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its K9 deputies.
In a Facebook post Friday, the Sheriff’s Office announced “with broken hearts” the death of K9 Dasko, who died from “an unexpected medical complication that was deemed terminal.”
Just last Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office announced retired K9 Rocker had died.
K9 Dasko had served the Marinette County community since 2018. Officials say he assisted in many narcotic seizures and criminal apprehensions. In 2022, Dasko participated in the Karl Zeitler Memorial Hunt, where he took first place in the Apprehension Challenge and second place in narcotics detection.
Dasko and his handler, Deputy Ben Hicks, attended numerous K9 demonstrations over the years, at which Dasko was “a crowd favorite… often times being asked for by name from the many kids that came to know him.”
“Dasko was Deputy Ben Hicks’ best friend and not only a member of their family, but ours as well,” the post reads, in part. “Dasko will be greatly missed by all his brothers and sisters at the sheriff’s office and loving family who cared for him.”
