GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The last of seven suspects arrested as part of a large-scale drug bust made an initial court appearance Tuesday.
Felton Currie faces 28 counts, the most any defendant, including 11 for manufacture & delivery of fentanyl. Bond was set at $1 million cash. Felton returns to court Aug. 16 for a preliminary hearing.
Currie, 46, had an initial appearance scheduled for last week, but a jail officer told the court he refused to come out of his jail cell without an attorney.
Also charged in the drug bust are Michael Oliver, Jessica Wright, Ebony Austin, Kyla Sanache, Cheri Austin, and James Grandberry.
All of the criminal complaints have been sealed from public view. Online court records reference “intercepted wire communications” as a reason for the sealed files.
At a recent news conference, police said the arrests were the culmination of a six-month investigation. The suspects allegedly were involved in trafficking drugs from Chicago to Northeast Wisconsin.
Five search warrants were executed in Brown County earlier this month. A simultaneous search of the stash house in Chicago yielded 12 kilograms (26 pounds) of fentanyl, four kilograms (nine pounds) of cocaine, 748 grams (1.6 pounds) of meth, 460 grams (one pound) of heroin, 16 guns and some marijuana.
Police originally identified Ebony Austin as Ebony Grandberry, but court records show the different identification.
