FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man and a woman from Green Bay were arrested after a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle ended in Fond du Lac after the driver struck a tree.
It started Sunday just before 6:30 p.m. when Wisconsin State Patrol spotted a stolen vehicle going south on I-41 near Breezewood Lane in Winnebago County.
Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area in attempt to locate the stolen vehicle.
At approximately 6:37 p.m. the Communications Center advised a State Trooper was in pursuit of the vehicle southbound on I-41 from STH 21 in Winnebago County. A few moments later the Communications Center advised State Patrol had terminated the pursuit as the vehicle exited eastbound into the City of Oshkosh on 9th Avenue.
At approximately 7:20 p.m. a deputy with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle matching the description, displaying a different license plate then originally given, southbound on Lakeshore Drive from Lone Elm Road in the Town of Friendship. The Deputy caught up to the suspect vehicle and activated his emergency lights and siren in attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle increased speed failing to stop for the deputy. The suspect vehicle passed multiple vehicles southbound on Lakeshore Drive almost striking a northbound vehicle head on. The pursuit continued into the city of Fond du Lac eastbound on Scott Street from Lakeshore Drive. The suspect vehicle failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Scott Street and Main Street. The pursuit was terminated due to speeds and driving behavior in the City of Fond du Lac.
Another deputy advised he located the suspect vehicle eastbound on Winnebago Drive near Prairie Road in the Town of Fond du Lac. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren and again the suspect vehicle failed to pull over for the deputy by increasing speed. The pursuit continued eastbound at a high rate of speed towards USH 151. The pursuit went southbound on USH 151. The suspect vehicle avoided tire deflation devices that were deployed. The pursuit continued southbound on USH 151 and exited at Johnson Street in the City of Fond du Lac. The pursuit went eastbound on Johnson Street still driving at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle went southbound on Wisconsin American Drive. The suspect vehicle left the roadway driving onto the lawn of a business. The suspect vehicle went back across Wisconsin American Drive onto another lawn in attempt to avoid Deputies. A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver) was attempted at Wisconsin American Drive and Johnson Street. The pursuit headed westbound on Johnson Street in the eastbound lane nearly striking multiple civilian vehicles. The pursuit continued eastbound on Johnson Street in the westbound lane causing more civilians vehicles to swerve to avoid collision with suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle went southbound on Prairie Road in the City of Fond du Lac failing to stop for a stop sign at Division Street. A deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle causing the suspect vehicle to lose control. The suspect vehicle collided with a tree at near Morningside Drive. After the suspect vehicle crashed a male and female occupant exited the vehicle immediately and were taken into custody without further incident. The Sheriff’s Office squad received minor damage from the PIT maneuver.
The driver, a 23-year-old Green Bay man, was transported by ambulance to the hospital for minor injuries. The passenger, a 22-year-old Green Bay woman, was transported by a Deputy to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.
The woman was out on a signature bond in Brown County for Possession of Electric Weapon and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The woman had an active warrant for that case as well as a second warrant through Outagamie County. Additionally, the passenger admitted they were smoking fentanyl while driving in the stolen vehicle, deputies say.
The pursuit lasted approximately 15 miles.
