NEKIMI, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two people died in a small plane crash outside the grounds of Oshkosh’s EAA AirVenture.
Crews responded to the call around 12:50 p.m. Monday, to a farm field in the area of Nekimi Avenue and Old Knapp Road, in the town of Nekimi.
The area is about two miles south of EAA AirVenture.
Billowing smoke could be seen from a distance.
When crews arrived on scene, the plane was fully engulfed.
Officials confirm both occupants of the plane are deceased.
The names of the deceased occupants and all other plane identifiers are being withheld at this time, pending notification to the family.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by NTSB.
It is the first day of the world’s largest fly-in convention at Wittman Regional Airport.
