MILWUAKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The focus of the Republican National Convention is obviously on the race for the White House, but there’s also opportunity for candidates in other races to get their message out.
With the convention being in Wisconsin, one candidate – in a race that likely wouldn’t otherwise have a candidate go to a national convention, is hoping to take advantage.
Roger Roth, a former state senator and current 8th Congressional District candidate, says he felt it was important to be in Milwaukee and get a chance to network with delegates and members of congress.
“All roads go through Northeast Wisconsin, so goes the 8th Congressional District, so goes the state and nation this fall,” said Roth. “I think Republicans recognize that and that is why I’m excited to be able to work to help drive out those voters to help Donald Trump, Eric Hovde, and myself win this fall.”
Roth is part of the three-way primary with State Sen. Andre Jacque and Tony Wied.
Jacque and Wied both decided to stay in district this week to campaign.
“For me I’ve had a few towns association meetings across the district this week,” said Jacque. “Today I’ve got a farm tour in multiple counties in the western and southern parts of the district. I guess I don’t want to be down in Milwaukee just to party and celebrate, even though I think it’s fantastic that it’s going on.”
In a statement, Wied’s campaign said:
“With less than a month to go until the primary, Tony is spending his time in the district meeting with voters of WI-08,” said Wied spokesperson Aidan Strongreen in the statement.
Roth says he was also going to be heading back for a bit to campaign in Door County.
All three candidates are supporters of Trump. The former President has endorsed Wied.
