VILLAGE OF DENMARK, WI (WTAQ) — After the Denmark branch of the Brown County Library shut down during COVID-19 in 2020, there’s momentum to bring it back.
The old branch, which was inside the high school, didn’t reopen due to new security rules at the school.
“The school district has to have people sign in when they come into the building, and public libraries cannot require an ID,” said Kathy Pletcher, Personnel Officer/Secretary on the Brown County Library Board. “The library doors are open to everybody, and you only need to have an ID if you’re checking something out.”
Pletcher is also a member of OneDenmark; the nonprofit working to put a library in the current Denmark Early Childhood Center when it becomes a community center after this school year.
“OneDenmark would acquire that building in November, then we would begin repair work,” said Pletcher.
Repairs include replacing the roof, updates to HVAC equipment, and more.
$750 thousand from the County sales tax has been budgeted for the project.
It’s anticipated that the new library location could open sometime in 2025.
