OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — Give a meal, make a day.
That’s the campaign at the Day by Day Shelter in Oshkosh to raise money get healthy, nutritious meals into the bellies of their guests.
The shelter relies on meal teams from the community to provide evening meals to guests. When the shelter switched from a seasonal shelter to a year round shelter last year, providing meals became more difficult.
“Now that we are year round, we have added more meal teams,” said Michele Weiler, Office and Volunteer Manager at Day by Day Shelter. “But we average about two meals a week that we don’t have meal teams for, and when we don’t have meal teams the shelter has so provide the meals.”
Day by Day serves about 55 guests every night who need a meal. Each guest’s plate is about $5.
“If we were to provide two meals a week for 55 guests at $5 a plate, and we were to do that for 52 weeks, that would come to $28,500. So that’s our goal for the campaign,” said Weiler. “And we are a little bit more than 1/3 of the way there so far.”
You can make a donation at the Day by Day Shelter website. The campaign runs through April 5.
