(WTAQ-WLUK) — After years of discussion and preparation, work begins Monday to expand I-41 from Wisconsin Avenue in Grand Chute to Scheuring Road in De Pere. Wisconsin DOT will expand the interstate from four lanes to six along the 23-mile stretch. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2030.
WisDOT’s 2024 construction schedule includes construction at the Highway 15/OO interchange, highway N interchange and the new southbridge interchange. Plus the Wrightstown weigh station will close as well as the Rose Hill overpass and Capitol Drive overpass. Work along I-41 travel lanes won’t begin until next year.
On Monday, Capitol Drive will close over I-41. While crews demolish the bridge, I-41 will close in both directions during overnight hours. The closure is between Wisconsin Ave and Richmond Street.
This week’s I-41 closure includes:
- Wednesday and Thursday: 11:30 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
- Friday: 11:30 p.m. – 6 a.m.
WisDOT has the following detours for drivers:
- SB I-41: Take WIS 47/Richmond Street south to WIS 96/Wisconsin Avenue. Turn right and head west to SB I-41
- NB I-41: Take WIS 96/Wisconsin Avenue east to WIS 47/Richmond Street. Turn left and head north to NB I-41
Construction schedules change often due to weather and other reasons, so drivers are encouraged to pay attention to the message boards posted along the interstate.
