(WTAQ-WLUK) — Despite colder weather, it was another slow day of sturgeon spearing on the Lake Winnebago system.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says six fish were speared on Lake Winnebago Friday: two juvenile females, two adult females and two males. Four of those were registered at the Southwest Winnebago station and two at Pipe.
For the second day in a row, no sturgeon were speared on upriver lakes Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts.
For the season, there have been 394 total sturgeon speared, 280 on Lake Winnebago and 114 on the upriver lakes.
With spearers less than half of the way to any harvest caps, the season will last a full 16 days and end on Sunday.
The Poygan, Neenah, Stockbridge and Quinney registration stations will remain closed on Saturday.
