(WTAQ-WLUK) — For the second day in a row, a total of eight sturgeon were speared on the Winnebago system.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says five of those were speared on Lake Winnebago and three on upriver lakes Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts as temperatures soared into the 50s. On Lake Winnebago, two of the sturgeon were adult females and three were males. On the upriver lakes, one was a juvenile female and three were males.

All five of the Lake Winnebago sturgeon were registered at the southwest registration station. That station has seen half of the sturgeon registered this year for the entire system.
For the season, 383 sturgeon have been registered.
Spearing ends Sunday unless harvest caps are met sooner.
