GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — To celebrate being selected to participate in Give Big Green Bay, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department is hosting an open house on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m. at Fire Station #4 at 2650 West Point Rd.
In addition to showing off their trucks, engines, and other gadgets, there will be resources and an educational component regarding two key issues in the Green Bay area.
“One of them being cooking fires, and safety regarding that because it’s our most common fire,” said Lt. Shauna Walesh. “The other thing we will have information on is fall prevention, because falls are our most common call.”
The open house will also highlight the department’s cadet program, since some of the funds raised from Give Big Green Bay will be going towards that program.
“The program is for students between the ages of 14-20 that are interested in careers in public safety, specifically within firefighting and paramedic,” said Lt. Walesh. “When people come to the open house, they can see the area where students are assigned gear, and see what that process looks like.”
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is one of 50 local organizations part in the 24 hour Give Big Green Bay event, you can learn more and donate here beginning at noon on Wednesday.
