KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The popular Eagle Days celebration was held in Kaukauna Saturday at 1000 Islands Environmental Center.
Mid-winter is prime viewing for eagles at the center, according to site manager Brad Garrity.
This is the 12th Eagle Days, which includes guided viewings, crafts and door prizes.
The main event is a presentation from the National Eagle Center in Minnesota. It was standing room only for the 10 a.m. show.
Garrity says it finally felt like a pre-Covid crowd for Eagle Days.
“It’s special because this area right here by 1000 Islands was one of the first nests that was found after the DDT issues of the 60s and 70s where the eagle was almost extinct,” said Garrity. “So, we’re kind of the start of the rebound of the eagles which is really cool.”
Saturday’s events were free and included activities and presentations at the Kaukauna Library as well.
