APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An annual luncheon in Appleton aims to support and inspire women and girls in the community.
More than 1,000 women attended the 23rd Annual Women’s Fund Luncheon at the Hilton Paper Valley Thursday.
The event raises money that goes to nonprofits and initiatives that empower women and girls in the Fox Valley.
It also included a panel discussion from women who became the first in their respective fields. Panelists included Chief Polly Olson, the first woman to lead the Appleton Police Department; Dr. Pam Her, a former executive leader that has worked in corporate, government and non-profit settings; and Judge Yadira Rein, the first person of color, specifically, the first Latina to serve as judge in the 8th judicial district of Wisconsin.
Communications and outreach specialist for the Women’s Fund for the Fox Valley Region, Stacie Hazlett-Rothe, says the luncheon is the organization’s biggest event of the year.
“Our mission is to advance women and girls in our community with a vision where equity and equality are not limited to gender,” she said.
The women’s fund was started 28 years ago when 100 women gave $100 to support local women and girls.
