MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A liberal law firm and its allies are asking the State Supreme Court to directly take up a lawsuit against Wisconsin’s legislative maps.
Law Forward chair, Jeffrey Mandell, says the Supreme Court previously ruled that the state’s maps were legal.
“We asked the court to hold that partisan gerrymandering violates the rights the Wisconsin Constitution guarantees every resident of this state,” said Mandell.
Mandell says the court’s previous actions to modify the maps violated the separation of powers.
Democrat Governor Tony Evers vetoed the maps sent to him by Republicans in the legislature, and Mandell says only the legislature can override a veto.
