ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Discover Green Bay offered a glimpse into the future of tourism in the area.
The organization offered a first look at the progress of its new $8 million Visitor Center being built at 1945 Argonne Street in Ashwaubenon.
The tour marks the 40th annual National Travel and Tourism Week.
Discover Green Bay President and CEO Brad Toll says 2022 was a good year for tourism and they’re expecting an even better year in 2023.
Though the final overall economic impact numbers have yet to be released from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, highlights of the report include:
- Hotel room sales increased by more than 9% from 2021.
- The 2022 total economic impact of meetings and conventions held was $75 million. Additionally, the Discover Green Bay sales team confirmed 150,303 room nights for future years which will generate an estimated economic impact of $111 million.
- Discover Green Bay meeting and convention sales team held 590 appoints with meeting planners at 20 different sales shows around the world.
- Sporting events held in our region made up 59,205 total room nights, generating an economic impact of $30 million in 2022.
- Discover Green Bay’s sales team held 91 appointments with potential group tour operators planning trips to our region.
- Discover Green Bay’s advertising campaign and organic social media efforts combined to generate 35.11 million impressions nationwide, generating 1.3 million pageviews to greenbay.com to help potential visitors plan their trips
- Discover Green Bay’s public relations efforts generated more than 800 million views of Green Bay-related content.
The full annual report will be released later this week.
Discover Green Bay’s Visitor Center is expected to be open to the public by September, just in time for the start of the Green Bay Packers’ season.
