HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Nearly a dozen people are out of their homes following a fire in a Howard apartment building early Friday morning.
The Howard Fire Department along with other agencies in Brown County responded to the building, on the 2600 block of Lavender Lane, at around 4:30.
As crews arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building.
The Howard Fire Department says a passerby noticed the fire and after calling 911 that person ran into the building and started banging on doors to wake the residents up.
Everyone was able to get out of the building safely.
According to the Howard Fire Department, units on the second floor have water damage and all six apartments in the building have smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but authorities believe it started on the roof or in an attic space.
The Red Cross is assisting the residents who’ve been forced from their homes.
