OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The man who stabbed a police liaison officer while he was a student at Oshkosh West High School has been found guilty of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Grant Fuhrman, now 20 years old, learned the verdict Friday evening for the December 2019 incident. Prosecutors say Officer Mike Wissink shot Fuhrman after Fuhrman stabbed him.
The trial began last week in Winnebago County court.
Fuhrman’s attorney, Corey Mehlos, said he did not expect this verdict.
“Obviously we always respect what a jury does. We appreciate two weeks of their life, but we know when we we’ve got a good case and we know we’re going to have a lot of options going forward.” Mehlos said.
Fuhrman’s family was extremely emotional as court let out, calling Winnebago County biased.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 1 at 8:30a.m.
The trial had been scheduled to start last May. But as that trial date was shortly after a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and Fuhrman’s attorney successfully argued a fair jury could not have been selected at the time. It was reset then to last month.
