GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Metro Fire Department has officially swore in their new Fire Chief, Matthew Knott, during a swearing-in ceremony at City Hall on Friday.
“I think your style of leadership, Chief Knott, is already coming through,” said Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich. “You’re a thoughtful leader, and somebody who wants to get their hands dirty, roll up their sleeves, and get in there and assist our community when they’re in need.”
Chief Knott has 25 years of public service experience in career and volunteer fire departments, as well as law enforcement. Chief Knott was previously employed by Rockford Fire Department, the second largest department in the state of Illinois, but says he’s excited to be in Green Bay.
“I’ve been familiar with this department, and I know the variety of work that’s involved with the bay, with the river, and all the industries,” said Chief Knott. “It’s a great community. And staying in the Midwest with Midwest values; I’m very happy to be here.”
Chief Knott says one of the first things he wants to do in the department is set a Strategic Plan; that will work on a model of continuous improvement for the department.
Chief Knott holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology and a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology with a focus on Safety from Northern Illinois University.
He is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) by the International Association of Emergency Managers and holds designations as Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Chief Emergency Medical Officer (CEMSO), Public Information Officer (PIO) and Fire Marshal (FM) from the center of Public Safety Excellence.
Chief Knott is also a paramedic and holds numerous certifications in relation to public safety.
