OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh is looking for help in raising funds for its expansion so it can meet the growing needs of the community.
The club’s proposed $16 million expansion project of its building at 501 E. Parkway Avenue, includes adding more classroom space, a gym, administrative offices and a playground.
Club officials say it serves more than 800 children daily with the average daily attendance up 70%. And each summer, the club has a waiting list of over 100 kids.
“It has been 18 years since our last major capital campaign building project,” said Mark Lasky, campaign chair and board member at Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. “The Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh continues to meet the needs of children and families in our community and serve as stewards of the public’s trust in us. This expansion project will allow us to collaborate with existing agencies with expertise and create self-sustaining skills and resources for the kids and families we impact.”
With the completion of the project, it would allow the club to serve an additional 150 children daily.
Over the last year, the club purchased 12 houses along Monroe Street in preparation for the expansion project.
The Oshkosh City Council also approved a $1.6 million-dollar grant which pushed the club to its goal to be able to publicly campaign for the building project.
