APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A railroad crossing in downtown Appleton will be closed for about two weeks, starting Monday morning, forcing detours on several major streets.
Canadian National has had repeated problems with the circuitry at the crossing where College Avenue, Memorial Drive and Richmond Street come together, so this work is designed to fix the problem, said Appleton traffic manager Eric Lom.
The tracks will be removed, the ground underneath removed and refilled, and then the tracks will be reconstructed. It’s expected to take about two weeks, Lom said.
During the work, drivers will not be able to cross where the tracks would be. Detours will be posted started Monday morning.
When that’s done, similar work will be done at the crossing on Badger Avenue, a few blocks to the southwest.
All of the work is being paid for by the railroad, he said.
