ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Grocery store chain Hy-Vee may take over the space at Bay Park Square mall vacated by Shopko.
The Iowa-based chain has requested a liquor license for a bar/food hall/patio area, according to an agenda item before the Village Board Tuesday night.
An image submitted with the application shows the patio, pub, and food hall in an area on the southwest corner of the store, near where Shopko had an entrance to the mall. The application notes that space would have an exterior entrance, however.
A liquor store would be placed on the east-facing entrance
The chain has 247 stores in eight states, according to the application. The closest store to Green Bay is in Madison, according to its website.
The Shopko store at the mall closed in June 2019, after the Green Bay-based discount retailer filed for bankruptcy.
The village board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Last year, Hy-Vee took hold of six former Shopko buildings in Iowa and turned them into Hy-Vee Dollar Fresh stores.
