GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – If you’re looking to take off for a job in travel industry or aviation, a great opportunity to fulfill that dream is coming to Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport this week.
A career fair including a variety of aviation-related companies will run from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Airport Director Marty Piette says those companies are hiring everything from ramp workers to plane technicians, and yes, even TSA screening agents.
“We have everybody looking for employees and good staff, so we thought it’d be easiest to bring everybody together at one time. Make it a one-stop-shop for those that are looking for a position with the travel company out at the airport,” Piette told WTAQ News. “There’s a number of different benefits with different employers. A great example would be working for an airline, you have travel benefits and you can travel the world.”
Piette is excited to bring all of the companies and people to one place to fill the open positions.
“We are getting busier and busier every day. We have a new airline, sun country, starting in December with some new routes. [We have] a new route on frontier. So tenants are looking to hire staff to accommodate the passengers,” Piette said. “Our airlines are hiring ramp workers and counter workers, rental car agencies are hiring for people to work the counter but also people that clean and maintain the vehicles.”
JetAir is one of the employers taking part. CEO Alan Timmerman says they could fill about a half-dozen positions right now.
“If it’s aviation-related, we probably do it here at JetAir…All different kinds of positions. If you’re interested in aviation at all, we probably have a position that does it,” said JetAir CEO Alan Timmerman. “The avionics technicians, the airframe and powerplant mechanics, those are degreed positions. But the entry level, customer service positions at our front desk or the line personnel, we train you…We can train people on a lot of the different positions, even if you have no aircraft or aviation experience.”
Timmerman says due to FAA regulations, all hires are required to pass a drug test – and be able to pass them on a random and regular basis.
Representatives from American Airlines Envoy, United Ground Express, Jet Air Group, Air Host Grill, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Avis, Budget and Enterprise Rent‐A‐Car will be on hand to talk about their current job openings. All you have to do is bring copies of your resume and fill out an application.
“Come out with an updated resume, work history, and even an ID. I wouldn’t be surprised if people are hired on the spot,” Piette said.
Applicants can park for free at the Airport Employee Lot (located between the Wingate Hotel and Jet Air Hangars on the airport grounds). Participating employers will have booths set up inside the terminal building’s second floor Upper Mezzanine overlooking the Ticketing Lobby. No appointment is necessary.
