OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – UW-Oshkosh celebrated its 150th birthday Sunday.
The college held a community celebration on a walkway between the Reeve Memorial Union and the school’s Arts and Communications Building.
The event featured various activities, bands, and displays, showing a historical timeline of the school’s evolution.
It started as the Oshkosh Normal School in 1871, and since, faculty say it has turned into one of Wisconsin’s premier schools.
“This is our opportunity to thank the Oshkosh community for fighting so hard for us over 150 years ago,” says Lynn Kleman, the UW-Oshkosh associate vice chancellor for development, as well as a member of the UW-Oshkosh Sesquicentennial Community Celebration organizing committee.
“We’re celebrating the institution, the fact that we started as a normal school for educators, and have since evolved into a major, comprehensive university.”
The celebration also featured a program led by Chancellor Andrew Leavitt and other campus administrators.
