GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay residents of all abilities marked the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act with a walk and roll.
After proclaiming this week as No Limits Ability Awareness Week, mayor Eric Genrich led a walk around the block. Those in wheelchairs were able to participate as well.
Monday’s walk and roll kicks off a series of events designed to celebrate all abilities through fitness, including yoga with puppies.
It’s a collaboration between the area’s three larger social services organizations: ASPIRO, Curative Connections and CP.
President of ASPIRO, Lincoln Burr says he hopes these events will get someone without a disability to say hi to someone with disabilities.
“One of the things that we really struggle with is a lot of folks with disabilities kind of disappear into the community and they don’t get integrated into the community in the way we wish they would so having this opportunity really demonstrates what people with disabilities can do, people experiencing what they can achieve,” Burr said.
