GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A lot of boats are expected to hit the lower Fox River and the Bay of Green Bay to enjoy the Independence Day Holiday.
Port of Green Bay Director Dean Haen is reminding boaters to be careful of larger commercial ships this weekend.
“Recognize that the ships are large, are unable to stop, and do not maneuver quickly or easily,” said Haen. ” Stay 100 yards away, don’t get up alongside them,if they use their bow thrusters that can create a dangerous situation.”
The port is closed to commercial traffic between 2:30 and 11:00 pm on the 4th of July. That’s good news to the people looking to hit the water to see the fireworks celebration in Downtown Green Bay.
“It’s critically important to be a safe boater, be responsible for the people you have on board,” Haen told WTAQ. “Be aware of whether, be aware of where you are, what you’re doing.”
