GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has created a space that both its current and future students can share.
The new learning center at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Green Bay opened Monday.
The center provides a space for youth who are interested in applying to NWTC to meet with career coaches and success advisors.
Current NWTC students can access the workspace for homework, student support coaches, Wi-Fi and computers.
Johanna Wicklund, chief operations officer at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Green Bay, tells FOX 11 it’s convenient to have this resource in the building.
“The Boys and Girls Club is excited for this partnership with NWTC because it provides a visual element in the Boys and Girls Club that families and students see as an accessible way to go to college and to pursue a career and college pathways.”
Dr. Colleen Simpson, Vice President of Student Services at NWTC tells FOX 11 the center creates unlimited potential for students on the east side.
“One of the things that we are really excited about is that we are meeting our students where they are. We are removing barriers for our students so that they can get a post-secondary education and we are proud of that opportunity here.”
Meanwhile, a new Boys and Girls Club has opened in Appleton.
The new locations is situated within James Madison Middle School. It is the seventh Appleton school-based club center that the Fox Valley branch operates.
The summer program launched Monday and serves kids between seventh and eighth grade.
Programming takes place between 11:30 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. Monday-Friday. Lunch and a snack will be offered to kids in the program.
Membership at the new club will be free for the 2021-22 school year. it’s open to all seventh and eighth graders, including those who do not attend James Madison.
