GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some Green Bay West students celebrated an unusual senior prom this year.
The school had canceled the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A group of parents set up their own unofficial dance at the Riverside Ballroom. They raised money for the event through fundraisers.
Culver’s also contributed by organizing a benefit for the dance.
“This is the part where we as parents said, ‘we can do this. We have confidence in our ability to be mindful of the health considerations, yet also offer a safe and fun activity for the students that is part of a tradition, the tradition of being in high school,’” parent and organizer Barbara Coniff said.
Close to 150 students attended the event Friday night.
Alongside the dance, there was a raffle with prizes and a catered dinner.
