OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Oshkosh will see thousands of planes fly overhead again this summer.
“Right now they are giving us the green light that everything should be fine,” said Pelton.
Jack Pelton is EAA’s CEO, he says local health officials are playing a big part in AirVenture plans.
Pelton says the vaccination process has helped, but its still important to spread crowds out.
“We’re already seeing in our pre-sale that the numbers are probably greater than 2019,” said Pelton.
EAA has been planning for 30% less people at AirVenture 2021.
Although, Pelton says an aviation event in Florida last week had record crowds — crowds that could come to Wisconsin too.
“Do you think Oshkosh will be able to handle the large crowds?” asked Fox 11.
“The unemployment is really low right now and the restaurants are trying to get back up to speed, and hotels haven’t been at full occupancy in a long time. So it’s going to put a lot of pressure and demand,” replied Pelton.
Pelton says the amount of international visitors will depend on that country’s travel restrictions come summer.
“Europe and other countries, Australia, we usually get large contingence from, right now most of them are saying travel is not possible,” said Pelton.
EAA spokesperson, Dick Knapinski, says details will depend on COVID-19 status — but EAA has several plans in place.
For now, indoor gatherings, like the Monday night concert are out.
“AirVenture might look different than past years but the spirit will be the same. the enthusiasm will be the same,” said Knapinski.
EAA says its patiently waiting to welcome aviation enthusiasts back down the runway.
AirVenture 2021 is July 26th through August 1st.
