February 22nd was the tenth day of the 2021 sturgeon spearing season and had only 24 fish harvested on Lake Winnebago. That’s the lowest daily harvest number of the season so far. The Wisconsin DNR says that the low numbers for the day are due to a reduced amount of fishermen on the lake as the season comes closer to an end.
In total, men and women fishing on Lake Winnebago have harvested 1,266 sturgeon this year so far this season. This means that the 2021 season has the highest amount of harvested fish since 2015 where there were 1,870 sturgeon registered. The 2015 season ended on day ten because harvest caps were met before the 16 day season had come to an end.
The largest sturgeon from Lake Winnebago today was speared by Jason Hammel and weighed in at 97.5 pounds. You can see the full harvest report from February 22nd here. Yesterday was the first day of the season that no sturgeon above 100 pounds were registered on Lake Winnebago.
