OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – In Oshkosh, members of both the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated George Washington’s birthday Sunday afternoon.
Members celebrated by dressing in full Colonial Army uniforms, and had a small flag presentation ceremony.
The statue of George Washington where the ceremony was held, holds significance, as it was one of several created by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon, over 100 years ago.
David Grover, vice president of the Capt. Hendrick Aupaumut Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, says “There’s only 8 statues like this in the nation. It was donated to the City of Oshkosh by the Daughters of the American Revolution.”
Washington’s birthday isn’t until February 22nd, which is today.
