NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The man who killed Kevin “Hollywood” Hein pleaded no contest Friday to a reduced charge of felony murder.
Casey Cameron, 37, had been charged with first-degree intentional homicide and other counts for killing Hein Oct. 14, 2019, at the Short Branch Saloon in Neenah.
But at Friday’s hearing, the charge was changed to felony murder/armed robbery — which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, instead of a mandatory life prison term for intentional homicide. Cameron was also convicted of six counts of recklessly endangering safety, each of which has a maximum sentence of 12.5 years in prison.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 16.
Cameron went to the Short Branch Saloon to commit an armed robbery. Hein followed Cameron out of the bar, when Cameron allegedly shot him, according to the complaint. Police matched DNA from a bandanna left at the scene with DNA found on a cigarette Cameron tossed from a vehicle as he was being followed by police.
