WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Shopko has officially shut its doors for good.
Sunday was the final day for Shopko stores across Wisconsin, including ones in large markets like Green Bay and in Wausau on Stewart Ave.
For the final day, Shopko had all items 90% off, including shelves and furnishings. Tori Granec, a local teacher tells WAOW-TV that she’s all set for next school year with supplies thanks to the sale.
“I have school supplies for my kids for next year they have pens pencils colored pencils paper I’m ready and thanks to the sale I already have my Christmas shopping done.”
Lines were long in the building as people took advantage of the low last day prices. And while shoppers were excited about the deals, many are sad to see the local department store close like Granec.
“This is my families go to place, Black Friday shopping and it was a staple in our community. Now it’s just memories.”
The future of the Shopko building in Wausau and Ashwaubenon is uncertain at this point as the loss of the local department store is affecting communities across Wisconsin.
