Shotgun
Hi There! My name is Randy, but everyone calls me Shotgun. The reason why is a pretty good story, but it’ll cost you a beer to find out.I’m originally from Medford, WI. Home of the the Red Raiders, Weathershield Windows and Tombstone Pizza. (It’s about 45 minutes northwest of Wausau and ALL the Shannons live there.) I went to college in Eau Claire, where I met the lovely Mrs. Gun (a Wrightstown girl), and I moved here to Green Bay about 10 months before we got married. Btw, we were married in Kaukauna at Bethany Lutheran and had our reception at Paper Valley, which is all I remember as it was a loooong time ago.
It was 1993, and I had moved to Green Bay to start up a brand new country station, 99 Country. It was a super fun station and we had a blast. It was me, Bubba Depew, Jay Walker, and Big Tomm and the Mom (Sherry Stuart) in those days. Coincidentally, WGEE-FM which was 99 Country is now DUKE-FM. Talk about full circle. 🙂
I was also one of the original people on Y100 when we signed it on back in 1995. “Wisconsin’s New Country Y100” – in case you’ve ever wondered, that’s what our call letters WNCY stand for. This has been a great radio station to work for and I have many fond memories of the folks who’ve worked here in the past, many of whom I hired, and the many wonderful listeners I’ve met along the way. I was the program director of Y100 from the start until 2006 when my buddy and I decided to have some fun in the mountains for a while.
We were in Denver, CO doing a morning show for four years, then went down to San Antonio, TX where I developed a love for Texas Country and smoked meat!
My family wanted to get back home here to Green Bay, so we moved back in early 2012 and it’s amazing to be back on the station I helped build, wearing jeans and boots again, and playing great country music. I love this station, I love this area, and I love waking you up each morning on Y100.
