(ST. NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) MILWAUKEE – St. Norbert College battled back late to claim a hard-fought 3-2 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Time of Grace Center.
The Green Knights clipped the Warriors 17-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, 15-6.
Wisconsin Lutheran never trailed in Set 1, building a 14-8 lead and never holding an edge of less than four points the rest of the way en route to a 1-0 lead. The match swung on the second set, when the Warriors had built a 16-7 lead before the Green Knights scrambled back into it. A pair of long services from Flynn Puttin and Maddie Kitowski brought St. Norbert to within 19-17 after a 10-3 run. Wisconsin Lutheran still led 21-18 before a 3-0 run behind a kill and service aces from Alli Clark (pictured) tied it at 21-21. The set was tied 22-22 before St. Norbert finished on a 3-1 run to knot the match 1-1.
The Warriors seemingly retook control of the match by never trailing in Set 3 and a 2-1 lead. St. Norbert responded quickly, its only deficit in Set 4 coming at 2-0. A 10-1 run, powered by three kills from Clark, put the Green Knights ahead 10-3. Wisconsin Lutheran would get to within 13-10 before the Green Knights pulled away with a 7-1 run for a 20-11 edge on their way to leveling the match at 2-2.
The decisive fifth set saw St. Norbert snap a 2-2 tie with three quick points, led by a kill from Clark and a Maddie Kitowski service ace for a 5-2 lead. The Green Knights led 9-5 before a quick 5-0 run effectively decided the issue at hand. Kayden Lamon’s kill locked up the win.
St. Norbert hit .085 for the match, with 41 kills against 29 errors in 141 attempts. Clark led the offense with 12 kills, while Brooklyn O’Malley added eight. Puttin had a team-high 15 assists. Kitowski and Clark each had two service aces.
Puttin had a team-high 12 digs, while Clark had 11 and Kitowski 10. Kirsten Klatt totaled seven blocks, while Brooklyn O’Malley registered six, including four solos.
Wisconsin Lutheran hit .116, with 53 kills against 34 errors in 164 swings. Keiveana Petersons had a team-high 11 kills. The Warriors aided the Green Knights with 18 service errors.
