Oct 07 (Field Level Media) – The Minnesota Vikings signed wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to their practice squad on Wednesday.
The move adds depth behind injured star Justin Jefferson and marks a reunion for Beckham with head coach Kevin O’Connell, who was his offensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
Beckham, who turns 34 next month, played in eight games (seven starts) with the Rams that year after being acquired from the Cleveland Browns. He had 27 catches for 305 yards with five touchdowns for Los Angeles during the regular season and added 21 receptions for 288 yards and two scores in the postseason before tearing his ACL in Super Bowl LVI.
The New York Giants released Beckham on Sept. 29 after three games and zero catches.
Beckham, 33, played only 20 snaps on offense and drew just one target, which came during the Giants’ 12-7 victory against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 27 in East Rutherford, N.J.
After not playing in the NFL last season, the popular “OBJ” made the Giants’ initial 53-man roster out of training camp but was unable to make an impact in his second tenure with the franchise.
The Giants selected Beckham with the 12th overall pick out of LSU in 2014, and he became one of the league’s most productive receivers almost immediately.
He was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, made three straight Pro Bowls and totaled 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns over five seasons with New York before being traded to the Browns ahead of the 2019 campaign.
He later played for the Rams, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins. He has 575 catches for 7,987 yards and 59 TDs in 122 career games (97 starts).
