Wisconsin Supreme Court hears challenge to congressional map over gerrymandering

MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Wisconsin Supreme Court is hearing arguments Wednesday on if the state’s current congressional map is illegal due to anti-competitive gerrymandering.

Those who filed the lawsuit are not seeking a ruling in time for the 2026 election. Instead, they are asking the state Supreme Court to send the case back to the lower court for a trial on their claims, which would likely not take place until 2027. The group said the case could be decided in time for the 2028 congressional elections.

Republicans currently hold six of the eight seats in the House of Representatives.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on if the lower courts were right to dismiss the cases, not the maps themselves. That decision isn’t expected for weeks or months.
