GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Many say, Labor Day is the unofficial end to summer, but it’s the official fence painting day for Packers fans.
The annual tradition taking place at noon on Labor Day, at 1177 Shadow Lane, across the street from Lambeau Field.
“Welcome everybody and thank you very much for coming to our fence painting,” said Dottie Harrsch, who’s brother owned the property until he died. Now Harrsch and her son, Peter, own it.
The Harrsch Family once again inviting friends and strangers to their home to help them paint the historic Packers fence in the shadows of Lambeau Field.
“This just means the world to us that they, all these people can come out and help us kick off the Packers season,” said Peter Harrsch.
“It’s just such a wonderful tradition with family and fans and friends and friends all getting together,” added fence painter Bonnie Lacrosse.
With Packers green paint poured and brushes in hand, everyone from families with small children, to painting veterans who are just trying to live life to its fullest picks and letter and paints.
“We’ve been here a couple of years now. The first year we came, the boys decided to choose the letter S. Not the best decision with the curves. So we have chosen straight letters moving forward. But we have a great time coming,” said Stephanie Juckem who was painting with her kids and husband.
Kelly Downard, who brought her friend Dave Fenner, added, “I have never done this and Dave’s been here This is his fourth or fifth year and He’s now in hospice. He’s got stomach cancer and maybe the last year he gets to do this and I know it was on his bucket list This is something that he would not miss So we’re here as long as he’s got the energy to work on his K.”
This year’s slogan, “Krafted with Love, Golden Opportunity, Smack on Target” is all done.
“I love it. I love it. It incorporates a lot of the Packer names. So of course we love it. It’s got love. It’s got golden. It’s wonderful,” said Sherri Wagner
The fence painting not only the unofficial kickoff of the season for fans, but they’re hoping it becomes the official mantra of the Packers season too.
Peter Harrsch added, “This team is crafted with love. You could also look at Matthew Golden and you know this beautiful like player that we have here and that’s a golden opportunity and then smack on target. Hopefully he kicks a ton of game-winning field goals for this year.”
