(WNFL) – Matt McLain’s leadoff home run off of Aaron Ashby in the seventh inning snapped a 3-3 score and lifted the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Cincinnati on Saturday.
The Brewers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run by William Contreras.
Elly De La Cruz tied the score with a matching solo shot in the last half of the first inning for the Reds.
A Luis Lara groundball in the third inning put the Brewers up 2-1.
Jose Trevino singled in the fourth to drive home a run to tie the game.
Tyler Stephenson homered in the sixth inning to put the Reds up 3-2 with Jackson Chourio hitting a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to tie the game, setting up McLain’s home run in the last half of the seventh.
A wild pitch by Garret Anderson allowed an insurance run to score for the Reds.
Dustin May started for the Brewers and went 3 2/3 innings before a 3-hour rain delay ended his start. May allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5.
Ashby took the loss for the Brewers to fall to 13-3.
The 2 teams will wrap up the series on Sunday with the pre-game starting at 10:35 a.m.
Kyle Harrison who is 10-4 with a 3.45 ERA will start for Milwaukee.
Cincinnati will go with Brady Singer who is 5-13 with an ERA of 4.83.
