(247NEWSSOURCE/LEARFIELD) WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Milwaukee Brewers fell short in their series finale against the Atlanta Braves after falling 4-2 in the Little League Classic from Williamsport.
Shane Drohan was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on eight hits and three walks in 5 innings.
Atlanta took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a double by Mauricio Dubon.
The Brewers tied the game on a Jake Bauers’ single in the third with Atlanta regaining the lead on an infield single by Sean Murphy in the fourth inning.
A fielding error by Andrew Vaughn in the sixth allowed another run to score putting Atlanta up 3-1.
Luis Lara’s triple scored Christian Yelich in the eighth inning to make it a 1-run game at 3-2 before Michael Harris II homered for Atlanta in the ninth inning for the final 4-2 score.
The Brewers finished with 11 hits with Jackson Chourio, William Contreras, Vaughn and Yelich each having 2 hits.
Tyler Mahle pitched 5 innings and got the win for Atlanta.
The loss by the Brewers and win by the Chicago Cubs over Seattle trims the Brewers’ lead in the National League Central Division to 6 games.
Milwaukee’s lead for the top spot in the National League playoffs was trimmed to 1 game over the LA Dodgers who are 80-51. Atlanta is 5 games behind the Brewers at 76-55.
Milwaukee had won three straight and will visit the New York Mets for a three-game set that begins tomorrow.
Kyle Harrison who is 10-3 with a 2.84 ERA will start for the Brewers.
The Mets will counter with Zac Thornton who is 3-4 with a 3.04 ERA.
