GLENMORE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new high speed internet service is available for people in the De Pere area.
The Brown County Executive’s Office, along with area leaders, held a fiber lighting ceremony and community event to celebrate the next phase of the Bug Tussel Broadband Project at Glenmore Community Center.
The project is focused on bringing fiber-optic internet to rural areas to keep everyone connected. Jesse Lane, VP of Strategic Development, explained this initiative was launched as a result of the COVID-19 school shutdown, where several students had to go and use public Wi-Fi in order to attend online classes, due to having inadequate internet at home.
Bug Tussel stated that being local is its prime focus.
“Profitability isn’t at the heart of what we do,” said Lane. “It’s connectivity and bringing connectivity to those who need it.”
As the project moves forward, Bug Tussel and Brown County leaders hope the expanded fiber network will help close the digital divide and ensure rural families, students and businesses have access to the reliable internet they need.
