(WNFL) – The Green Bay Rockers made the Northwoods League Great Lakes West Division race more interesting last week in the final week of the season.
The Rockers defeated the Wausau Woodchucks 6-5 in 10 innings.
That combined with the Lakeshore Chinooks 4-1 loss to the Traverse City Pit Spitters leaves Lakeshore in first place with a 21-11 record, Wausau in second place with a 20-11 record and the Rockers in third with a 19-13 record.
Green Bay is 2 1/2 games out of first place and a playoff berth with 4 games remaining.
Tuesday night against Wausau, the Rockers scored the winning run in the tenth inning when automatic baserunner Brayden Pleau scored on Dom Bello’s single to center.
Boone Kirst led the Rockers with 3 hits while Pleau, Bello, Landon Schaefer and Dawson Schmidt each had 2 hits.
Zacary Tenn pitched the final 5 innings for Green Bay to get the win in relief of Eddy Eveland. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4.
The Rockers are at home tonight against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in Green Bay’s final home game of the season before finishing on the road with a game Thursday night in Wisconsin Rapids and then games in Madison on Friday and Saturday.
Each of the games can be heard on 99.7 and 101.9 WNFL.
