MADISON, Wis. – After a great June Dairy Month here in the state, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Secretary Randy Romanski rounded out the month by visiting northeast Wisconsin last week.
One of Secretary Romanski’s first stops was to Renard’s Cheese in Sturgeon Bay, where Chris and Ann Renard shared updates on their growing retail operation and strong export momentum, including new opportunities in Asian markets. Despite being early afternoon on a Monday, the store was packed with patrons shopping for a variety of Wisconsin-made products.
Another visit brought Secretary Romanski to Fairview Pastures in Denmark, where fifth generation dairy farmer Luke Wavrunek discussed his grazing system, weaning practices, and barn improvements. Secretary Romanski and Wavrunek also discussed soil health, animal health, and ways producers can connect with legislators and DATCP for support.
“Wisconsin’s dairy industry is known internationally because of the people who innovate, collaborate, and care deeply about their farms and communities,” Secretary Romanski said. “From expanding export markets to strengthening conservation practices, Wisconsin dairy farmers and producers highlight the strength and diversity that keeps Wisconsin’s agriculture industry moving forward.”
