IOLA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Heads up, automotive enthusiasts: You may be interested in a new specialty license plate that will be released soon.
The Iola Car Show announced Tuesday its plate will be available to the public starting June 9 through the Wisconsin DMV special license plate program.
Developed in partnership with the state Department of Transportation, the plate celebrates the Iola Car Show — one of the nation’s largest and most recognized automotive events — while also supporting the future of the nonprofit behind it.
“We wanted this plate to feel like more than just another registration option,” said Iola Car Show Executive Director Joe Opperman in a news release. “This is something people can proudly display on their vehicles while also helping support the future of the show and the nonprofit organizations connected to it.”
The license plate project got its start following a successful signature campaign led by supporters of the Iola Car Show. After moving through the approval process, the final design was selected with direct input from the public. Organizers said the plate is “attractive and reflects both the history of the Iola Car Show and the spirit of the collector car hobby.”
In addition to standard registration fees and issuance costs established by WisDOT, each Iola Car Show plate includes a $25 annual donation that supports the charitable mission of the nonprofit Iola Old Car Show, Inc. According to officials, these funds will allow for ongoing improvements, youth programs, community initiatives and over 120 volunteer and nonprofit groups connected to the event.
Since it became a nonprofit, the Iola Car Show has contributed more than $10 million to community organizations and volunteer groups, “making the specialty plate another meaningful way for enthusiasts to help preserve and grow the tradition for future generations.”
