Flooding in Shiocton April 19th, 2026 (Fox 11 Online)
BLACK CREEK, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Outagamie County has opened a one-stop-shop resource center to assist residents impacted by floodwaters.
The new multi-agency resource center, or MARC, is located at Romy’s Nitingale in Black Creek.
The effort is being led by Outagamie County Emergency Management. Amanda Hildeman with Outagamie County Public Health said it’s important for residents to have all the necessary resources in one place.
“They can come here, they can get information and know that it is good information, and hopefully, talk with some people that they can get additional things that they might not have even thought of,” she said.
The center offers disaster relief, public health assistance and insurance resources, to name just a few. Hildeman said The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross are running most of the direct relief assistance, but the county will still come to help.
“In Shiocton, you get to your house tomorrow and go, ‘This is so much. I don’t even know where to start.’ Call 211. We have crews that will be able to come out and assist with cleaning, mucking out your basement, looking to see what the damage is,” she said.
Outagamie County Land Conservation is one of the agencies providing assistance at the MARC. Director Greg Baneck said farmers are seeing significant damage.
“If you drive around right now, you see a ton of erosion. Anything that had a slope. There’s reels, there’s gullies,” he said. “There is going to be a lot of opportunity to go out and work to try to fix some of those problems in the fields.”
Baneck said effects from the floods will continue to impact farmers for years to come.
“Those areas where the topsoil is washed away and it’s down to the subsoil at that point. To rebuild that soil structure, that doesn’t happen overnight. Over time, you go by a growing cornfield, you might see places where the corn is shorter in those areas,” he said.
Outagamie County will continue to provide support as flood relief continues in the area.
The MARC is located at Romy’s Nitingale (W5670 County Rd A, Black Creek, WI 54106). Its hours of operation are listed below.
- April 22-24: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- April 25: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Wednesday evening, Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson said in a Facebook post there was a “huge” turnout for the MARC’s first day in operation.
He added that officials conducted a door-to-door canvas of Shiocton Wednesday afternoon to assess storm damage. This data will be submitted to Wisconsin Emergency Management as a first step to hopefully getting federal aid for flood recovery.
Shiocton residents are allowed to return to their homes starting Thursday.
