(LEARFIELD) – The Brewers bunted three times to score what was the eventual winning run Thursday afternoon at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Garrett Mitchell crossed the plate in the seventh inning of a 2-1 victory over Toronto.
Mitchell led off the inning with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Greg Jones and then came home on consecutive bunts by David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy talked about bunting in today’s game.
Brandon Sproat started for the Brewers and allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 6 2/3 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 6.
Murphy also talked about Sproat not finishing the seventh inning.
Sproat talked about how badly he wanted to finish the seventh inning.
Lefty Aaron Ashby faced only two batters while earning his league-leading fifth win in relief.
Trevor Megill who has struggled this season as the closer for the Brewers, pitched a perfect eighth inning.
Megill talked about getting the ovation he got after finishing the inning.
He also talked about getting things going.
Angel Zerpa stranded the tying run at third to save the win and give the series to Milwaukee.
The Brewers start a three-game weekend series in Miami tonight.
