(ST NORBERT COMMUNICATIONS) WISCONSIN RAPIDS – St. Norbert College braved the elements and traveled to face UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference doubleheader, falling 12-0 and 8-2 at Rapids Area Sports Complex.
The Green Knights (9-9) fell behind early in the opener, with the Pointers (16-4) plating eight runs in the first inning. Stevens Point then added two runs in each of the third and fourth innings.
St. Norbert scratched out three hits, while Addison Maurer took the loss in the circle.
In the nightcap, the Green Knights scored first when Elly Kirst was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kirst moved up to third base on an infield hit by Grendel Sprong and then scored on a fielder’s choice grounder by Allison Ardito.
The Pointers’ offense kept clicking in Game 2, countering with three runs in their half of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead. Stevens Point added a run in its half of the second inning, but the Green Knights got the run back in the top of the third after Molly Reichenberger led off the inning with a triple and then scored on Morgan Jarvi’s one-out RBI groundout to make it 4-2. The Pointers registered single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead and then added two more runs in the sixth.
Grendel Sprong finished with two hits to lead the Green Knights offensively. Amber Johanek took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing six hits and six runs with two strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
