OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Three people were taken into custody in Oshkosh Wednesday as part of a joint operation with federal authorities.
The Oshkosh Police Department says it was made aware that two individuals wanted on felony warrants by another agency in Wisconsin for their involvement in a firearms incident had been staying at locations in Oshkosh for a few nights.
Through surveillance, the subjects were tracked to the Oshkosh Walmart. As the individuals walked out of the store and into the parking lot, undercover and uniformed law enforcement officers from OPD and the U.S. Marshals Service – Eastern Wisconsin Violent Offender Task Force executed a high-risk stop. Two non-residents and one Oshkosh resident were detained “without incident or injury to anyone involved or present.”
OPD then executed a search warrant at an Oshkosh residence. Several firearms and illegal drugs were recovered. Officials say these discoveries could further the original investigation or result in criminal charges in Winnebago County.
The two non-residents were booked at the Winnebago County Jail on felony warrants. The Oshkosh resident was booked on a Department of Corrections probation violation hold.
In a news release, OPD said:
The presence of armed and wanted individuals poses a threat to the health, safety and well-being of our residents. We will not tolerate the city being used as a safe haven for wanted individuals. We will continue to work tirelessly, utilizing all available resources to identify and apprehend those individuals who engage in these destructive behaviors. We stand united with our community in the fight against illegal activity, ensuring Oshkosh remains a safe place for all.
An investigation is ongoing, according to police.
