(UW ATHLETICS) MADISON – The Wisconsin women’s basketball team (13-13, 5-10 B1G) fell, 83-60, to the Minnesota Golden Gophers (19-6, 10-4 B1G) Sunday evening at the Kohl Center.
Kyrah Daniels led the Badgers with 18 points and three boards. Gift Uchenna put together her 11th game in double-digits, adding 14 points and eight rebounds. Ronnie Porter contributed seven points and four assists on the night, while Dorja Zaja added seven of her own off the bench.
How it happened
Daniels knocked down a three-pointer off a fast break to kick off the game, as the Badgers got off to a hot start on both ends of the court. Wisconsin held control of the game early, thanks to an 11-2 run sparked by Uchenna and a strong showing off the fast break, closing out the quarter 18-12.
The Badgers struggled to regain control of the momentum after the Gophers took the lead in the second, entering the half trailing 40-31.
Minnesota extended its lead deep into the third quarter, despite a strong showing from Uchenna and Porter at the line. Wisconsin continued to battle into the fourth quarter, before ultimately falling in the final frame.
Wisconsin finished shooting 43.4% (23-53) from the field, 21.1% (4-19) from the arc and 76.9% (10-13) from the line. Minnesota ended shooting 52.4% (32-59) from the field, 33.3% (6-18) from three and 86.7% (13-15) from the line.
